Here are some great winter classes for local children:

Broadway Song & Dance

This class will consist of beginner basic dance steps and terminology for ages 10 and up. Under direction of Bridey Kearns, class will begin with a 20 minute warm up, 20 minutes of jazz movements, ballet positions, across the floor moves and 20 minutes of basic tap steps. This is to enhance the students’ dance ability during stage performances and auditions. Starts Jan. 14 and runs Thursdays for 8 weeks from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. $75

Beginner’s Acting Classes

Beginners (16 & up): You’ve been asking for a great acting class; here it is! This interactive class under the direction of Robert Cozza is designed to challenge your current acting abilities helping to further develop and enhance your skills through training, practice, and learning to take direction effectively. Exercises will include warm-ups, drama games, vocalization, monologues, and improvisation! Starts Jan. 11, Mondays for 8 weeks. $75

Advanced (17 & up): This class is designed for student actors with some prior class or stage experience who wish to further explore the craft of acting. Under the direction of Michael Moran, you will experience an insight into various styles such as Method, Stanislavski, Meisner, and Physical Theater along with other techniques such as improv and creative storytelling. Starts Jan. 13, Wednesdays for 10 weeks 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. $85

Coast Elite Gymnastics

Parent and child class is designed for children from 18 to 36 months, accompanied by a parent or guardian. This 45-minute class introduces gymnastics body positions, skills such as forward & backward rolls, and activities on the balance beam and uneven bars. The class begins with group stretching and typically includes an obstacle course with plenty of opportunities for climbing, rolling, and jumping, as well as rotations to at least two gymnastics events. The class may also include rhythm activities or parachute.

Florida Rep Education

Florida Rep’s Education programs have grown exponentially in the past few seasons, and reach upwards of 35,000 young people and families each year. Overseen by education director Kody C. Jones, the department continues to educate, excite, and enlighten Southwest Florida audiences as our popular programs thrive and new ones take shape. The five programs that act as pillars of Florida Rep’s Educational Programming are: The Theatre for Young Audience Series, Camp Florida Rep, Conservatory Productions, Classes for Youth & Adults, and an In-School Residency Programming.

Kicks School of Dance

At Kicks! School of Dance, they are committed to providing a warm environment where the students develop a love of dance and gain confidence in themselves as they see their own progress. They believe in providing a well-rounded dance education where dancers develop strong technique, creativity, performance ability, and an overall knowledge of dance, all while they are building friendships and having fun! Musical Theater Class

This exciting class exposes beginning students and will enhance advanced students in musical theatre (for ages 9 – 16). Under the direction of Tony Saracino, students will focus on voice placement, intonation and breathing techniques to attain projection needed for stage.  The class will also incorporate light movement and choreography which will enable them to perform effectively. The class is taught multi-level and it is not necessary to be experienced in singing, acting or dance. Starts Jan. 9 and runs  Saturdays for 10 weeks – from 9:30 till 11:30 a.m.  $105

Southern Starz Gymnastics

Pre-School Fitness and Fun program is for ages 1-4. These classes teach basic gymnastic skills to enhance coordination. Gymnasts will use size appropriate balance beams, bars, and trampolines to achieve this goal. They offer two different age groups in the pre-school program, Mom and Me classes are designed for children 1-3 years so that the parent can be with them and offer guidance during the instruction. The final step is the 3-4 old year age group. This group will focus on gymnastic skills as well as body position & coordination.
